A sports injury of the hand or wrist can range from a traumatic sprain or fracture like Skier’s Thumb and Mallet Finger, to a condition brought on by repetitive movements, such as Gymnast Wrist or Gamekeeper’s Thumb. No matter the scope or severity of the injury that is impacting your athletic performance, we’ll accurately diagnose it and develop a personalized treatment plan to get you back at the top of your game as quickly as possible. Our fellowship-trained surgeons are wholly committed to serving patients using a full range of cutting-edge approaches and techniques that include physical therapy, non-surgical treatments like focal extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) and platelet-rich plasma (PRP), as well as surgical interventions when necessary.

The most common arthritis in the hand is thumb basal joint arthritis, which can make it difficult to open jars, twist doorknobs, or turn keys. Pain, swelling, and stiffness from arthritis in any part of the fingers, hand, or wrist, however, can make it difficult or impossible to perform basic daily tasks and engage in the activities that bring you joy. At Modern Orthopaedics of New Jersey, our leading physicians take a proactive and comprehensive approach to hand and wrist pain caused by arthritis.  Our treatment approach will typically start conservatively with physical therapy, bracing, and steroid injections. For patients who are looking for a regenerative approach to their arthritis, we may offer PRP and/or extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) when appropriate.  When conservative measures fail, our surgeons will use minimally invasive procedures to address the arthritic joint. When surgery becomes necessary for permanent pain relief, all of the surgical options are discussed with our patients.  These options include joint total joint replacements, joint reconstructions, and targeted joint fusions. We implement these unique treatment strategies to achieve the best outcomes for each patient.
