Our Areas Of Expertise

Each of our orthopedic specialists is an expert in one or more areas of the body, including the hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, knee, foot, and ankle. Below, we’ve provided an overview of some of the most common conditions we treat:

Hand And Wrist Injuries And Procedures

Our doctors provide advanced non-surgical and surgical hand and wrist treatments for an extensive range of injuries and conditions, including:

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is characterized by symptoms such as pain/numbness/tingling in the hands and weakness when gripping. Treatment may range from bracing or corticosteroid injections to surgery.

Trigger Finger Release

If you experience bothersome clicking/locking of your finger or difficulty straightening it, and conservative treatment options have not resolved the issue, it may be time to consider a percutaneous or open trigger finger release.

Wrist Arthritis

Wrist arthritis may occur post-traumatically or as a result of inflammation or osteoarthritis. The condition can often be managed conservatively with bracing, NSAIDs, and cortisone injections, but a partial or total wrist fusion, four-corner fusion, or other wrist surgery may be considered in severe cases.

Wrist Tendonitis

Wrist tendonitis generally presents with pain over the thumb side of the wrist triggered by movements such as lifting, pinching, or grasping. The condition can often be managed conservatively, but De Quervain’s Tendon Release surgery may be recommended, depending on the circumstances.

Elbow Injuries And Treatment

The elbow specialists at Modern Orthopaedics of New Jersey possess the advanced training, experience, and expertise to diagnose and treat a broad spectrum of injuries and conditions. Some of our most common elbow treatments are listed below:

Tennis Elbow

Tennis elbow causes pain on the outside of the elbow associated with activities that involve wrist extension, such as lifting or gripping. The condition may be treated conservatively or surgically, depending on its severity and level of persistence.

Distal Biceps Ruptures

If you have experienced a distal biceps rupture, you may be living with pain, swelling, and weakness in the elbow. Treatment options for this condition depend on the extent of the rupture and the patient’s activity level.

Elbow Sprains

Elbow sprains can be caused by forcible twisting or bending movements, overuse, or a traumatic injury. This type of injury often responds well to conservative treatment options, but orthopedic surgery may be considered in cases where ligaments are severely torn or ruptured.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes swelling and stiffness in the joints, including the elbow joint. At Modern Orthopaedics of New Jersey, our team specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of this condition using both non-surgical and surgical approaches.

Shoulder Injury Treatment

Our innovative shoulder treatments range from conservative treatment plans to total shoulder replacement surgery. Learn more below about some of the common shoulder injuries and conditions we treat:

Shoulder Dislocation

Shoulder dislocations are common injuries. They can occur in patients of all ages but are especially frequent in young student-athletes. These injuries often occur from direct trauma to the shoulder area during sports when trauma occurs to the shoulder while it’s in an awkward position. At times, these injuries can spontaneously reduce (go back in place) at the time of the injury, while other times they require the patient to visit the emergency room to have the shoulder relocated. Even when the shoulder is put back in place successfully, there are labral tears and possible fractures that should be evaluated.

While non-operative care is often possible, sometimes surgical repair of these structures can give the shoulder the best chance to be as close to normal as possible in the future. Our surgeons at Modern Orthopaedics are shoulder experts who will examine your shoulder and perform advanced imaging with X-ray and MRI. Each shoulder dislocation can have a unique pattern that determines the patient’s risk of re-dislocation in the future. Our experts will help you come up with a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Frozen Shoulder

Frozen shoulder is a condition characterized by shoulder pain and loss of motion, usually between the ages of 40-60. Surgical intervention is rare, and the condition is usually treated with cortisone injections and extensive physical therapy.

Rotator Cuff Tears

At Modern Orthopaedics of New Jersey, our shoulder experts often treat partial-thickness rotator cuff tears using conservative treatment approaches and perform minimally invasive arthroscopic rotator cuff repair surgery to address full-thickness tears.

Shoulder Impingement

Shoulder impingement is a painful condition that occurs when the muscles of the rotator cuff become irritated/inflamed and pinched beneath the top outer edge of the shoulder blade. In severe cases, subacromial decompression surgery may be recommended.

Hip Pain Relief And Surgery

Hip treatments at Modern Orthopaedics of New Jersey range from conservative treatment approaches to innovative surgical options. Learn more below:

Hip Fractures

The symptoms of hip fractures are often acute, and surgical intervention is frequently recommended for this type of injury, as long as the patient is medically stable for surgery.

Hip Arthritis

If you live with hip arthritis or other joint pain, our highly experienced orthopedic specialists will tailor an individualized treatment plan to your specific needs, goals, and circumstances.

ACL reconstruction surgery is often the recommended treatment approach for ACL tears. Speak directly with a Modern Orthopaedics of New Jersey specialist to learn more.

Runner's Knee

Runner’s knee (patellofemoral pain syndrome) is common in individuals who repetitively run, jump, and/or bend their knee. The condition can usually be treated conservatively without surgical intervention.

Foot And Ankle Care

At Modern Orthopaedics of New Jersey, our individualized foot and ankle treatments range from non-surgical treatment options to advanced surgeries. Learn more below:

Achilles Tendinitis

Achilles tendinitis is characterized by inflammation and pain in the Achilles tendon caused by repetitive stress, bone spurs, or a sudden increase in physical activity. Treatment is often conservative, involving rest, physical therapy, and preventative techniques.

Ganglion Cysts

Lower extremity ganglion cysts typically manifest as soft swellings near the foot or ankle and may cause discomfort, including pain, tingling, or weakness. Some ganglion cysts resolve on their own over time, but surgical excision may also be recommended, depending on their severity.
